Bath Township Board of Trustees Hires New Fire Chief

The Bath Township Board of Trustees has hired Craig Vogel as Fire Chief of the Bath Township Fire Department, effective Sept. 1, 2026.

Craig Vogel was sworn in Tuesday night, replacing retired Chief Joe Kitchen as the new head of the department.

Vogel has been with the City of Defiance Fire Department for 14 years. He started as a firefighter and paramedic and worked his way up to captain.

He decided to take the next step in his career and apply for the fire chief position in Bath Township.

“I know a little bit of history. I know the former chief a little bit and I’ve always heard good things about the community. I know baseball coach here and so I’ve heard great things about Bath Township and it’s just an exciting opportunity. It worked out well with where I was in my professional career so I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring there and see what happened. Interviewing with the trustees was a great experience for me. They really sold me on this department, this community and it’s been a very, very welcoming experience so far. I’m really excited to get in here and get to work,” says Craig Vogel, New Bath Twp. Fire Chief.

The department currently has around 30 full- and part-time firefighters and paramedics.
